We are seeking an enthusiastic Editorial Services Specialist to provide editorial services support to the Content Operations department in the Academic division of Cambridge University Press, working across Books and Journals. This is an exciting role for a detail-oriented individual with experience of copy-editing and proofreading.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About the role

The Editorial Services Specialist assists the Content Management teams in managing their copy-editorial, proofreading and indexing requirements, both in-house and outsourced, and in resolving any associated issues. Content Operations is a global department producing a wide variety of content in both print and digital formats.

The Editorial Services team operates in a fast-changing environment, and you will need to maintain a flexible approach to the provision of editorial services. You will evaluate the requirements of content entering production, and monitor the work of freelancers and pre-press suppliers, assuring quality across our Books and Journals, while also balancing schedules and budgets. Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Providing editorial services advice and instruction
  • Monitoring the quality of editorial services and providing constructive feedback
  • Assessing manuscripts and preparing copy-editorial briefs
  • Managing a pool of approx. 350 freelancers

About you

You will be proactive, good at building relationships both internally and externally, and have strong attention to detail. You must have the ability to adapt quickly to the challenges presented by new technology. Strong communication skills are essential.

You will have experience of copy-editing and proofreading, ideally academic content, and will have previous publishing experience. Ideally you will have a good degree in an academic subject. You must be flexible in your approach to work and be able to prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines.

You will have effective organisational and time-management skills, as well as strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. You will be able to demonstrate a high standard of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Acrobat; a good understanding of LaTeX, XML, HTML and ePub is desirable, but not essential.

If you would like to know more about this opportunity and what will make you successful, please see the full job description attached to the bottom of this vacancy on our careers site.

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Private medical and Permanent Health Insurance
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Group personal pension scheme
